Overdraft Protection Plans

Liberty FCU checking account holders can choose to receive coverage from a designated regular share account. With this overdraft protection option, when you have insufficient funds, a transfer is made from available funds in your savings to your checking account so that the item can be paid. A small $4 fee is assessed for the transfer. Items clear your account individually; therefore, there is a separate fee for each item.

You can also apply for an overdraft protection loan so that funds can be advanced from a credit line to your checking account for a $4 fee, plus interest on the loan balance. If you wish to apply for an overdraft line of credit, click here. Unless you instruct us otherwise, transfers will occur first from savings; then from an overdraft protection loan, if available; and then from courtesy pay. You may also notify the credit union if you do not wish to receive the courtesy pay program coverage, wish to cease coverage from an existing line of credit loan, or wish to remove your designated regular share account coverage.

Is there a way I can know if any of my points are set to expire?

Yes, there are two ways:

When logged in to scorecardrewards.com, any expiring points will be listed beneath your total points balance, including the date of expiration.
Expiration information will also be included in the monthly ScoreCard statement available by email. If you do not currently receive this email, you can register for it at scorecardrewards.com. Once logged into the site, select My Info from the main menu, then choose Email Preferences.

How often will points expire?

Which points are subject to an expiration?

Only points earned with a debit card that have not been redeemed within 24 months are subject to expiration. Points earned with your credit card expire after 36 months.

Have you received a phone call from Liberty FCU regarding your proof of insurance?

Liberty FCU frequently contacts members regarding proof of insurance. The number the call will be coming from will be (833) 612-7401. You can securely update your insurance information online by visiting ImCovered.com/Liberty FCU, by emailing a copy of your insurance declarations page to libertyfcu@imcovered.com, by faxing a copy of your insurance declarations page to (866) 831-3810, or by calling our insurance center at (833) 612-7401.

Can I continue to use my physical credit or debit card(s) if I suspend or remove my cards in Wallet?

When you suspend or remove your cards in Wallet, your device-specific Device Account Number is suspended or removed. You can continue to use your physical credit or debit card(s).

What should I do if my iPhone/iPad is lost or stolen?

With Apple Pay, you authorize each purchase with Touch ID or your passcode. These features help prevent other people from using Apple Pay on your iPhone or iPad.If your iPhone or iPad is lost or stolen, you can go to icloud.com/find or use the Find My iPhone app to suspend or permanently remove the ability to pay from that device with Apple Pay. Your cards will be suspended or removed from Apple Pay even if your device is offline and not connected to a cellular or Wi-Fi network. You can also call us at (812) 477-9271 or (800) 800-9271 to suspend or remove your cards from Apple Pay.

Will the card image in Apple Pay match my physical card?

No. The card image won’t be an exact match. Keep in mind this doesn’t affect how your cards work with Apple Pay.

When paying with my Platinum Rewards debit card or Platinum Rewards credit card, will I continue to receive ScoreCard Rewards points?

Yes. When you pay using Apple Pay, you’ll continue to receive rewards, benefits, and security that your credit or debit card provides.

When I’m paying in store using a Liberty FCU debit card in Apple Pay, should I choose Credit or Debit on the terminal?

If you see this choice, we recommend that you choose Credit to get the most consistent Apple Pay experience. Choosing Debit might not always work successfully with some older merchant payment terminals and backend systems.

Where can I use Apple Pay?

You can use Apple Pay with your iPhone to pay in stores that accept contactless payments. Look for one of these symbols at checkout:

Some stores might have this symbol on their card readers and point of sale terminals, but they might not be currently set up to accept contactless payments including Apple Pay.

On iPhone and iPad, you can use Apple Pay to pay within apps when you see the Buy with Apple Pay or Apple Pay button as a payment method. Look for these buttons in apps:

How does Apple Pay keep my information private?

When you pay in stores, neither Apple nor your device sends your actual credit or debit card numbers to merchants. When you pay in apps, the merchant will only receive information like name, email address, billing and shipping address you authorize to share to fulfill your order. Apple Pay retains anonymous transaction information such as appropriate purchase amount. This information can’t be tied back to you and never includes what you are buying. Apps that use Apple Pay must have a privacy policy that you can view which governs the use of your data.

Is Apple Pay secure?

Apple Pay is more secure than using a traditional credit or debit card. Every transaction on your iPhone or iPad requires you to authenticate with your Touch ID or your passcode. Your card number and identity aren’t shared with the merchant, and your actual card numbers aren’t stored on your device or on Apple servers.

How do I ad my physical credit or debit card to Apple Pay?

To add a credit or debit card on your iPhone, open Wallet and tap + in the upper-right corner. (Note: If you do not see the + symbol in the upper-right corner, swipe down and it should appear.)
If you have a Liberty FCU credit or debit card on file with iTunes, you’ll be asked to add it. You can also choose to add a different card using your iPhone’s camera or by entering your card information manually.

To add a credit or debit card on iPad, go to Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay, tap “Add Credit or Debit Card” and then follow the same steps for iPhone above.

Keep in mind, the first card you store in wallet is your default payment card, but you can always change that in Settings.

Grandparent Scams

Scammers try to trick you into thinking a loved one is in trouble. They ask you to send money immediately. To make their story seem real, they may claim to be an authority figure, such as a lawyer or police officer; they may have or guess at facts about your loved one, often gleaned from social media. These imposters may insist that you keep quiet about their demand for money to keep you from checking out their story. But no matter how real or urgent this seems — it’s a scam. Check it out before you act. Look up that friend or family’s phone number. Call them or another family member to see what’s happening. Even if the person who contacted you told you not to.

Online Loan & Employment Scams

This scam takes place online usually via sites like Craigslist, Facebook, etc. Typically, you will find an offer (either employment or a loan) and they will either send you a fraudulent check either via overnight mail or ask for your online banking credentials to make the deposit. They will then ask you to purchase gift cards, money orders, or wires to send some of the funds back to prove your creditworthiness. Any request for your online banking credentials or request to send money back via any means indicates you are involved in a scam.

Medicare Scams

These scammers typically reach out by phone with a few different tactics. Sometimes, they claim to be a Medicare representative and ask to verify (thus essentially stealing) your information. Or they claim that there’s a fee for your new card (there isn’t). Others claim that your Medicare card was compromised, and you need to move your money from your bank into “safer accounts”.

If you or a loved one suspect you are being abused, exploited, or scammed, contact your local Adult Protective Services office or local law enforcement. Also, be sure to contact the credit union to inform us of any sensitive information the abuser might have regarding your accounts. You may need to request that we place holds on your services, set a code word on your accounts, enact stop payments, and even change your account numbers to prevent losses.

Romance Scams

Scammers will usually claim to be from the U.S., but are traveling or working overseas, or they plan to visit, but are prevented by a traumatic event or a business deal gone sour. They may also state that they are out of the country for business or military service. Eventually they will need funds for a plane ticket, immigration costs, hospital bills, lawyer fees, etc. and may even want you to send it to a third party. They usually want your online banking credentials to deposit a fraudulent check and request you send the funds to them via gift cards, wires, etc.

Lottery & Publishers Clearing House Scams

Scammers call, claiming you’ve won a sweepstakes. But, to collect your prize, you need to send money to pay for so-called fees and taxes. They also may send a letter claiming you’ve won a lottery and provide a check for you to deposit and send the funds on to pay taxes, etc. Paying to collect a prize is a scam and the check will be fraudulent. Scammers like to ask you to send money by Western Union or MoneyGram, or by purchasing and forwarding a prepaid card or gift card.

How long does information stay on my credit report?

The Fair Credit Reporting Act speciﬁes the length of time information may be reported on a consumer credit ﬁle.

2 Years or Less

Fraud Alerts (Initial) – Can be placed on a credit report for a minimum of 90 days
Fraud Alerts (Active Duty) – Can be placed on a credit report for a minimum of 12 months
Inquiries – Two years but can only impact the credit score for 12 months

7 Years

Collection Accounts – Seven years from the date the account first became delinquent without since becoming current
Judgments – Seven years from the date filed
Tax Liens – Seven years from the date paid. Indefinite if not paid
Trade Lines – Seven years from the date of the last activity
Late Payments – Seven years from the date of the occurrence
Consumer Statements – Can be placed on a credit report for up to seven years
Fraud Alerts (Extended) – Can be placed on a credit report for a maximum of seven years

10 Years

Bankruptcy Chapter 13 – 10 years from the date filed. If discharged it is reportable for seven years from the date filed
Bankruptcy Chapter 7 – 10 years from the date filed

How do I stop the stream of mailed pre-approved credit card offers and the excessive solicitation phone calls from random mortgage lenders when applying for a mortgage?

Many credit card companies and lenders utilize the credit bureau’s database to offer pre-approved credit. The company making you an offer does not have the ability to see your credit information. They simply purchase a list of names and addresses from the credit bureau of people that fit certain criterion. You have the right to opt-out or prohibit any promotional credit or insurance transaction. To opt out of receiving them for five years or opt out of receiving them permanently, call toll-free 1-888-567-8688 or visit www.optoutprescreen.com

Much like the credit card companies use the credit bureau’s database for their pre-screened offers, mortgage companies request a list of recent mortgage applicants that meet their criteria. The same list of mortgage applicants are often purchased by multiple mortgage lenders resulting in excessive solicitation calls. Some mortgage applicants have received up to 30 calls a day resulting in frustration and confusion. Using the pre-screen opt out service and the National Do Not Call Registry before applying for a mortgage can reduce the number of calls. You can add your phone number to the free do not call registry at DoNotCall.gov or by calling 1-888-382-1222.

Are companies that claim they can improve a credit report for a fee or pre-approved offers from the mail reliable?

Both the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) caution consumers to be wary of companies that make claims regarding credit repair. Credit repair companies must comply with the Credit Repair Organizations Act which states that a credit repair company cannot charge a fee in advance of services rendered. Credit repair services provide no service that the consumer cannot do on their own at no cost.
